The problem comes when you start modifing parts. Race suspension , Race brakes etc are perfect for the evo but not daily driving. The second problem comes, i don't know many people who only have 1 evo and have kept them completely standard...

+1. My Megane R26 got 25-26mpg on a daily run, my X gets 22ish. I was of the opinion that it'd be better to regret buying one, than not getting one and spending the remainder of my sensible days browsing Autotrader thinking 'what if...' |

I'm using an E8 daily, handful of mods (decat, exhaust, air filter, remap, fuel pump etc). Fuel costs are ridiculous, but I still get straight into it every morning instead of the econobox parked next to it..

Thanks guys, I was kinda hoping you all might try and sway me away from the idea but looks like I may have to speak more indepth with the mrs about it haha!
IF I do get 1 it will have stage 1 mods at very most. The main thing that got me thinking about it is the reairs etc and after ****ing about with our 4 I know I can do pretty much anything on an evo, BMW or Audi are a different kettle of fish. The only thing I will need is some very hard wearing seat covers as the reson I wanted an estate is I carry our dog about pretty much everywhere and he isn't exactly small, clean or tidy lol. I'll also have to borrow a tow car for events that are a treck for the IV.

When i'm on leave I drive my IX GT most days. It's a car, not an ornament. Only the fuel/servicing costs are highish, I wont let my wife see the fuel receipts.
It's stage one mods and on a run isnt too bad. It's not so economical around the doors but so what, it's an evo! I have a vectra diesel for long runs and taking the family/dog anywhere, but I hardly ever use it. Prefer the evo for now. Why not just do it for 6 months and see how it works out? If you get one at the right price, you shouldnt lose too much when you sell, if you decide it's not for you. Go for maybe an 8 or a 9, or even a X if budget allows. Just keep the mods sensible (lol) and it should prove reliable if not caned everywhere. Can't fault mine so far.

If I drive mine round town too much it does my head in sometimes, When I use it for work I go a different/longer way to have fun and actually use the turbo!.

I use my IX GT as my everyday car and I love it. It has 18s and is lowered on Eibach springs but it rides well. The exhaust is stupidly loud too but I just don't care. I get about 21-22mpg day to day and on a long motorway run I get between 30-31mpg, and that's with a bigger turbo and injectors etc. The only thing that ever gets a little tiresome is the clutch when in heavy traffic (Exedy twin plate - it's not heavy, I just tend to get a slightly juddery start sometimes if I'm not really paying attention) but then I go absolutely bonkers if I'm stuck in traffic for too long so the clutch is the least of my worries.
![]() Just do it. A standard-ish car should be great and if a IX wagon came up for sale then that'd be just perfect for the dog too. ![]() Last edited by KrissJ; 14-06-2012 at 12:21.. |

I use my V daily - stage one mods and a twinplate. Even the twinplate isn't much of an issue - in fact it's a lot easier to live with now I drive the car more!
Plus you get to drive your evo which is what they are for after all. Not to mention the little interactions with other road users - I bimbled through the traffic this morning beside a nice black GTR with mutual nods of respect given ![]()

Go for a standard evo mate and something under 6 year old trouble free motoring then. Just fuel costs which aren't that bad 5,6,7 are old cars now and hard to get a mint low mileage standard car
