Fantastic. They used to use Porlock hill in N Devon years ago, maybe that could be another one.

porlock was used on a stage rally just last weekend ,its privatly owned so you could use it any how

but as for the super prix ,and bonkers hill climbs ,who knows ,its now down to local councils to deal with rather than needing an act of parliment to remove the speed limits ,we have allways been able to close any road ,you just couldnt break the speed limit

as it is i knwo of 2 events that will have closed roads rally stages next year ,im sure there will be a few more in the years to come

I thought it was Wallace Menzies car. He lives just along the road from me. I thought it was a Firestorm but not really up to speed with my hillclimb cars.

The Road Traffic Act still applies to privately owned land.

Really? I used to rag old cars round my grandfather's fields, jumping them handbrakes etc. I never heard that I had to keep to the Highway Code, surely that's for highways?

I said the Road Traffic Act (the legislation at the heart of this issue) not the Highway Code.

Parts of it do. But only certain parts.

porlock must be differant as its often used on the somerset stages rally ,and run at rally speed ,something only the likes of wallasey prom and blackpool prom seem to be able to do as well

while closing a road for an event has never been a problem ,and its often easy enough to do ,the issue was the speed limit ,you couldnt do more than 30 mph ,now with the new legislation ,its possable to suspend that part of the RTA to allow it to be used for motorised sport

So glad this has been passed for mainland UK, we have had closed road motorsport in the Channel Islands for decades. Currently we have around 13 closed road tarmac events in our season here in Guernsey.

This is great news and it will open up many new events and venues. I have heard the access road to the Cairngorms park is one such hillclimb venue that has been waiting for this legislation so it can become Scotlands 4th hillclimb track

There are loads of roads around here that would make good hillclimbs

Yes good news in that it unlocks a door as it were, but there is still a good way to go before an event takes place.

I'm not sure that the new legislation applies to wales or Scotland.

In Scotland I doubt much will happen until the fatal accident inquiry from the Jim Clark rally is finished whatever the legislative position.

The MSA still need to issue a permit and they are going to be very cautious IMHO, the last thing they will want is safety problems laid at their door.

An e grand prix in London is probably high on the agenda seeing as protestors got the event kicked out of Battersea park.

ive heard on the grape vine a stage rallies on the cards before the end of the year ,another with closed road stages with other venues is planned for early next

while its clearly a HUGE undertaking by anyone willing to take it on, but i bet the rewards will be huge

i for one cant wait ,events like this are the soul reason ive kept a working rally car as long as i have
