Evo 6 remote central unlocking/locking

My Evo 6 does not remote centrally unlock. It does lock but you quite literally have to be standing next to the car to lock it. The key is standard I believe.

Any ideas what it could be would be most appreciated.

Have you replaced the battery? (in the fob, not the car )

Not yet but will give that a go as it should be the easiest potential fix.

Cheers.

does it have a separate fob (alarm fob), if it does, does that fob remotely lock and unlock the doors?

The key I use is just a key with one button in the centre. The other key has an aftermarket alarm fob but that doesn't lock or unlock. I will try replacing the key battery. If that does not fix it I think I'll have to get a electrical specialist to take a look as it might be alarm related.

Thanks for the help Stu.

ok, well firstly i'd change the batteries in both the key and the alarm fob on the other key. See if the alarm fob button will lock and unlock, or just the same as the main key - lock.

The range thing is most likely the battery in the key button. The not unlocking could be down the the lock solenoid being old and tired, but if it works both ways with the old alarm fob, that would insinuate the fault lies elsewhere, if so probably not an easy fix, and easier to use the alarm fob to remote lock and unlock

Battery replaced in key fob, which has improved the locking range but still will not unlock

The lights light up on the alarm (viper) fob but doesn't unlock or lock. Will try and replace the alarm fob battery but suspect it will be something else

the fact it locks but not unlock would make me suspect the drivers door central locking mechanism is faulty / tired. When you use the fob to unlock, do you hear any noise from the drivers door as if its trying to unlock, or is it complete silence?

All I can suggest is try getting hold of a known working lock solenoid / mechanism, and try it. the fact your button unlocks the doors makes me suspect its not a fault of the receiver, or the button, but that isnt a sure thing.

My previous 5 would sometimes not unlock on the button, but would always lock, same was true using the alarm fob, but I could hear it try to unlock when it failed to unlock, so I assumed that was the lock solenoid / mechanism, but I never changed it in the end as it was occasional and never failed completely
