Private Messaging - 0 messages allowed?

Hi there.

I have been away from the forum for a wee while and when I look into my PMs I see the following:

'You have 10 messages stored, of a total 0 allowed.'

I can't post any further private messages either.

Can someone shed some light on this please?

Mark

Cheers,

Seems a bit odd. I can do it on every other forum I am on.

Oh well.

Yep welcome to the MLR you cant look on parts section either now or advertise stuff...not sure why, i think it was to do with paid up members getting ripped off, of course we have not seen any ripped off threads since have we?

The PM facility was made member only a long time ago.

You used to be able to PM on this forum too - but it was abused, so unfortunately - like a lot of things in life - the few ruined it for the many.

Parts is for members only, so that they don't lose out to people who don't contribute to the club in any way, snaffling all the bargains off the site. It was called for by the paid up members, so was implemented. It also goes some way to help people if there are transaction problems, as fully paid up members have to register their details with the club - there for, if solicitors / police / courts etc need information, we have more than just an email address.

Exactly.

The forum is still free to use, and post on (as exhibited above) for non-members, but like about 90% of other clubs - there are member only areas.

Wont that work the other way also, if a none paid up member wants to sell bits, paid up members lose out, also what about a members who has sold his evo and has bits to sell and doesnt want to pay a years membership to sell his stuff, my opinion is your trying to get as much money as possible, theres nothing wrong with that just be open about it, i like this forum normally as i have a few friends who still drive evo's but i have no interest in one now and have no intention of buying one, but have to pay subscription to use pm or sell something?

Thanks your opinion Fozzy - which you are fully entitled to, but you are very much mistaken. We are not just in it for the £££'s

If someone doesn't want to pay for membership that is fine, they can still use the majority of the site, but why should paying member keep funding others to use 100% of the site

Non-paying users don't have to pay for a subscription at all - but they won't be able to have the same as members. There are many other avenues for selling 2nd hand parts... ebay etc, so there is no necessity for them to sell or try to sell here. We had 100's of people using this site to make a quick buck, and contribute nothing to the site at all - and by that I don't mean money, but posting and being part of the community. All they did was have parts after parts forsale - and were pm'ing people from wanted posts etc... trading via the back door and all at the expense of the members / traders who are happy to pay and contribute to the forum regularly.

Like I said - it was a few that spoiled it for the many, but it is quite simple.. if you want to use those areas of the site, you need to be a fully paid up member.

Now - this has been discussed many times before - there are threads and threads about it, so I am leaving this particular thread now, so sorry this will be the last reply. As you may have noticed, Darin is on holiday and I'm a little to snowed under to go over old ground again (sorry that sounds ruder than I meant it, but can't think of another way to say it).

bye for now

paying to sell/buy

nothing new with having to part with some wonga to get a service tbh
i had to pay membership to the 123 evo site to put up wanted ads,and view sellers ads on time[not much intrest in early cars now on here]
on other forums such as L200 you have to pay to view the technical info too.
although on both the other forums mentioned you can pm as a normal unpaid member.these sites cost cash to run and need to generate an income

If a forum costs more to run than the income generated by advertising and sponsors/traders something is wrong, imo.

The MLR though is, I understand, an actual registered club/non profit organisation also, which takes the administration required to an altogether higher level.
