I'd just paint it from a gun with Rust Bullet or something hard like that then Scotia white over it.

That's exactly what I had and what made me decide to paint mine. Annoyed me as the rest is ok. I'm using an Epoxy Mastic for mine that's white. Did plan on Scotia on top of that but may not bother now. It's the underside firstly so the shade difference would be hard to notice. But the main thing is the Epoxy is hard as hell so shouldn't chip, where as the Scotia over it would. Think it would look tatty again then .
