Vibration through Steering Wheel after first time on new tyres?

Hey guys,

Had Eagle F1 Asy 2's fitted all round on Saturday, and the first time I went out afterwards there was fairly heavy vibration through the steering wheel at 75mph.
Since this, it hasn't seemed to happen again.. is it something to be concerned about or just the tyres settling in? An imperfection on the tyre surface maybe?

Anyone else had similar?

wheels need to be balanced .
where they balanced when the new tyres went on?

oh and just for safety sake have a look to see that the wheel nuts are tight

They were supposedly balanced yeah, didn't see it being done myself though.

I watched the guy tighten all the nuts so they should be okay.

The bit that confuses me is that it seems to be fine again now... what would cause it to vibrate the first time I did any speed and then not do it again? Weird.

Just check a weight has not fallen off one of the alloys.

If its fine now - just leave it

You realise if I die now it's your fault?

If it happened once i'd say you'll get it again. Don't know much about the science of this kind of thing, but reckon that sometimes you can get a more pronounced vibration depending on the relative positions of the two wheels on the axle.

Perhaps give things a few hundred miles to settle down and if any vibration returns then get them rebalanced.

Seemed okay on the drive to work this morning, and I had a little bit of a run at the weekend, not much though, but it only happened the once (the first time I did any speed after having the tyres fitted).

It's a petrol day today (when isn't it?!) so I'll take it for a bit of a run after the fillup and see what happens.

I find tyre vibration to wheel imbalance can change with temperature.

Just get them rebalanced. 5 minute job,

Went for a decent length drive after fillup today, up to 115mph and not a hint of steering wheel vibration... guess it must have gone whatever it was!!

sometimes the stickers from when new pick up dirt when on the road (sticky)...after a few miles it wears off. Feels like unbalanced...could have been that.

and 115mph!!! on a private road of course!

Don't worry, I'm in a part of the world that rather ludicrously allows it

was going to say the same but you beat me to it had the same problem on mine when the tyre fitter left the stickers on,

John.

Talking

Mmm can only think of 2 places where that might be

Glad that it seems to have sorted itself out, as it's not much fun watching the wheel vibrate when cornering at that speed

Cheers

Sorry I've come in a bit late on this one - only just seen it.

I also had Eagle F1 Asy 2's fitted all round a couple of months back and had a similar problem. I watched them balance all four wheels on the machine and I could see the results, which all came up as balanced ok. Plus this is a place I've used for all my tyres, car and motorbike, for years and never had a problem.

However, when I set off to drive home I had noticeable vibration through the steering once I got up to motorway speeds so I took it straight back in. They took the fronts off, put them on the machine and both were out of balance, not by much but enough to register on the machine and need the weights adjusting. Since they were both wrong I got them to check the rears too, and sure enough both of those needed adjusting as well. They had no idea why wheels which had just been balanced would immediately be out. The stickers had been removed before the wheels were fitted the first time BTW as I watched them do it, so in my case it definitely wasn't that.

It was much better after the rebalance and I didn't get any noticeable vibration on the way home, but I've since found there are a couple of sections of local roads where I always now get a slight shake from the steering every time I drive them. And these are roads I've been driving for years where it's never happened before with any other of the many car/tyre combinations I've had, not even with the Evo when it was on the other two types of tyres it's had. I've found it happens occasionally on other roads further afield too, but it's very rare and even when it happens it's only just noticeable and not enough to worry about.

It's just odd that it's predictable on the roads I often use, where I know if I get up to 70-ish in a particular place I'm going to get a slight shake, which will stop as soon as I get off that section of road. I can't see anything obvious in the road surface and it's not always at a change of surface that it starts or stops. I did wonder if it's just that the tyres are more sensitive than anything else I've driven and they're picking up a genuine ripple in the surface that I've never noticed before. Odd though as I've had plenty of other high performance tyres in the past and none of them did it...

If it comes back regularly on your car at any point I'd get them rebalanced just to be on the safe side, otherwise there's probably nothing to worry about.
