It's been a while since I've put any updates on here as we've been crazy busy recently.

Just thought I would share what we are doing with the 9RS and our plans going forward.

We were really fortunate to start off with an excellent base to work from with regards to the car. We've been running the car for the second part of this year and it's worked very hard indeed! With winter coming up it is of course the best time to strip and rebuild.

Like with many things, we had initial plans which we kept adding to...and adding to...and adding to

Here is how the car looked before we retired it for the year

We spent a couple of days mapping which gave the car a nice smooth (as smooth as is possible) power band and it made fairly decent power. Mapped for Q16 fuel.

The engine and especially the gearbox were on the limit for power and torque and as we wanted to take things further it is upgrade time for both.

We've opted for a Norris version 8 (ultimate) 4G64. Currently Simon is in dialogue with Bullet Cylinder Heads in Australia as we really wanted to use their billet block but need to know if they can manufacture a 4G64 block rather than a 63. Seriously well engineered piece of kit!

Part of the reason for using a Norris engine other than than obvious excellent reputation is all the testing Simon has done with his twin charged set up was obviously done on his own engine/s so it made complete sense to take that option as we will be going down the twin charged route using his supercharger and a 4202R turbo.

Transmission itself we are not 100% on yet, we have a few options to think about but we are getting on with obtaining substantially uprated drive shafts and of course transfer case and rear diff in the mean time.

Aero wise, we really wanted the same kit as the Tilton Interiors car from Voltex. Garage G-Force had a similar set up but not exactly the same. After some dialogue, Voltex are kindly making another kit which will be 100% the same as the Tilton kit. You may notice some subtle differences (and the lack of rear diffuser on the Garage G-Force car) below.

Voltex will be coming over to the U.K. fit in February

The Tilton beast

I'll post some more pictures shortly of the mucky work taking place at the moment!

Prep for air jacks - 52mm internal diameter sleeves

New carbon doors, skins need a wee tidy. Cutting of new carbon door cards and fitting of new lexan windows. 5mm hardcoat with pro sliders and reverse mount NACA ducts on rear windows to aid cooling. Gone for a new rear windscreen too and swapped the glass windscreen up front for lexan

Thanks buddy that really means a lot.

like the carbon doors :smthumbup

do you know how much they weigh ?

will
I had FRP doors before which were really light but I just love carbon. These will be a bit heavier, not sure exactly how much they are sorry!

It will be interesting when the car as all finished and weighed in. It was 1160KG wet before....who knows what it will be! Place bets now

Im not on mlr much these days as i just dont have the time but I will make sure to check in every so often just to see how this amazing build is coming along. Having been one off the small hand full off people on this forum to see the Tilton Interiors Evo, Nemo and some off the other crazy WTAC evo I take my hat off to you for attempting to go to the same level, especially get Voltex to design the kit and come over to the UK to fit it.

I'll cross my fingers and toes in hope that after you get this amazing build finish and some testing done, you load it into a container and bring it out here to Oz for the WTAC and attempt to take on some off the competition out here. I love it when i see a UK car make it out here to put a bit off pressure on the teams here.

Good luck mate

Shifter to suit Quaife transmission

Engine bay sanding going well...still have plenty of welding to do, need this as stiff as possible.

A few shots of interior, welds sanded down etc. Rear screen and roof still need to come off.

Last of the cast vinyl is off, once all the work is complete we will re-wrap the car ready for the season

Arches finished

Prep for fuel filler underway, old filler flap will be plated and welded over.

Not evo related but whilst I was there, Wayne plugged my RS6 in to make sure we could do a software flash as I'm switching to a new turbo back exhaust system - been a while since I've seen such teeny turbos!

Amazing project Luke look forward to seeing it in action

Regarding the last (evo) photo; are you not going to be cutting most of the rear body work off for the Voltex kit? For the Tilton evo they made an one piece boot section/rear bumper out of carbon fibre.

We have a little more modifying to do to the rear end. I think the original rear 3/4 panels are going to stay on due to time constraints but will certainly be looking to remove them and replace with carbon panelling for the 2018 season.

I am sure we will learn an awful lot this year as we run the car and can build up a list of things to do over next winter.

Billet rear diff cover arrived

Work for air jacks coming along nicely

Bit of repair and tidying of metal work plus a lot of welding. Unused holes in the bulkhead will be plated and welded

Cabin floor pretty much stripped now. Won't be long until the shell can go to the spray shop :smthumbup:mitsi:

New carbon roof, carbon flocked dash and carbon dash pod are almost ready to ship too.

Funny you should say that as we have literally just talked about it! Having looked at Andy Barbour's car yesterday, I really liked Black. In the end we have decided to mask the cage off (which you have to do anyway as you can't paint the interior and cage at the same time due to overspray) and paint everything else in satin Black. This will leave the cage White so it will stand out - the cage will receive a refresh too. Black also works well as the Voltex kit is all Carbon.

We have something very special on the way for the rocker cover and it should look great in a Black engine bay.

Engine bay ready for last coat of rust bullet. Difficult to show in photographs how much detailed work has gone into this.

Front arches now ready for last coat of rust bullet too

Making good progress in the cabin

Fuel system work underway, there is a little flex on the 3/4 panel when the probe is pushed in so Wayne is going to use some left over carbon sheet on the reverse side to reinforce the panel a little. The ATL stuff is just fantastic!

Even though the cell has long since been drained, the pungent smell of Q16 remains! Boy that stuff is strong, I think the guys were feeling a tad squiffy

There is a rather hefty mechanical fuel pump to go up front which feeds from a 5L (yes 5L!) swirl pot in the boot. We will run a low pressure pump to essentially start the car then a medium pressure pump to feed the swirl pot. The fuel lines we are using are twice the diameter of the current lines.

I like that idea! Good point about satin too.

Yeah it's probably worst after it's combusted. Can't stand next to the car when it's running otherwise you end up with very watery eyes and trying to explain that there is nothing wrong you just really really love your car.

They've been grafting so hard, so many late nights and early mornings! not long until the nicer stuff can start as they put the car back together.

Things will start to come together really quickly soon. The challenge will come after the aero is fitted and we have to squeeze all that testing in before round 1 at Cadwell!

Who's doing the welding ? Not websters I'm guessing

Interesting build on a very good platform all the best
No, they put the cage in originally for Dave when he had the car. Most of the work is being done at WK.

I want, all of it, now, please.

Amazing thread, thanks for sharing :D
Haha, me too! It's really taking shape now, cannot wait to finally drive the car once it is done.

Looking forward to seeing this on the circuit this year, always love how Evos dominate Time attack earns me much pub ammo with my mates.
I'll do my best :smthumbup
