This thread will be dedicated to the excellent work Mat, Dave and Simon have done at MG Auto Motorsport, bringing my newly acquired 2005 8 MR FQ-340 back to life and packing a new level of punch, with an underside/underseal freshen up, suspension and brakes, engine and turbo overhaul and finally the tune.

Watch this space, it will be updated with images and specs over the next day or two.

Yeah it's been a huge amount of fun building this car, with a very capable team behind me who have really turned my original vision into a reality that has exceeded my expectations. I can't wait to make another visit to Spa and Nurburgring in August in it. There's not many people who get to drive their dream car, but that's exactly what MG Auto Motorsport have helped me achieve here. There's no other car I'd rather drive, so a big thanks to Mat, Dave, Simon and Jordy. #TeamMG

#GotAero

First drive of it this morning since a quck spin on a dyno to check AFR ratios prior to a more extended mapping session planned after my trip to Cadwell Park on Monday to have a play during the public track time sessions. All I can say is, if you're thnking "shall I, shan't I" when it comes to rear wings. Do it. One word.... PLANTED. :naughty: :mhihi:

…is that 6 gears Matt??? like, 6…as in 5 + 1???? Are you covering all bases or leaving 6 in there for the journeys to and from the rounds :)
Dont you be buying a trailer now or that 6th'll be null'n'void:naughty:
No mate. 5 speed box. The key on the graph is a bit misleading, but theres five lines on it.

Trailer?! Moi?! And deny the villages to and from Spa and Nurburg the staccato throb of a cammed 4g63 with a GT1.0Z exhaust? Where's the fun in that?! :naughty:

Syvecs

Little update on the current spec before this years run to Spa and the Ring for a good hiding.

The factory ECU has been replaced with a Syvecs S6 unit and augmented with JT Innovations Toucan display and Shift lights. I've managed to mount the shift lights behind the clear plastic that covers the white dials I put in previously, which looks pretty trick. It was quite easy to do to be fair.

Just needs mapping now.

I've also acquired a ported and zircotec coated stock intake manifold that will match the exhaust manifold, turbo and elbow on the hot side of the engine. That'll get fitted after the trip now, but I'll follow up with some photos once it's complete.

There's always something to do. Gotta love the #evolife. :mitsi:

Some bits for sale

I've been making a few changes recently, and as a result, have some "hardly used" parts for sale if anybody's interested.

Standard Evo 8 steering wheel re-trimmed in Alcantara with red centre stripe. (very nice but I didn't want air bags on track when wearing a helmet and using harnesses so this wheel is much better suited to a road going car.

Kakimoto GT1.0Z Racing exhaust (cat back). 103DB, 1mm thick stainless, 8kg, one bend, best exhaust evverrr, and lightest steel exhaust on the market. It pains me to sell this. I'm literally hesitating as I write this, but the truth of the matter is, it's too loud for most UK track days. Agghh man. Do I keep it anyway? i dunno. Offers welcome.

I have MR front and rear seats for sale too if anybody wants a black leather and grey alcantara interior with ralliart logos. condition is good.

2018 update. After 2017, it became apparent that I needed to get a lower intercooler pipe custom fabricated and clamped to the j pipe and intercooler to prevent the pipe blowing off under extended hard driving on track. I also needed to address breathing, so the valve cover got replaced with an aluminium one and AN-10 fittings welded on. The OEM design of the PCV system has been retained with a custom fabricated, two oil catch can set up on the "on boost" side, with the "under vacuum" side recirculating to the intake manifold as standard, but using AN-10 line and a Redhorse Performance AN-10 check valve. Due to the immense vacuum leak that AN-10 lines create when plumbed all the way back to the air filter (so the turbo provides a venturi effect to suck the pressure out the crank case on boost), there is also a Redhorse Performance AN-10 check valve on this line that runs through the cans too. There's a lot of threads on oil catch/breather systems and my take on it is this. It's a road going car, used on track. It's not a full-time race car, so sticking with mitsi's design is probably best. We've just made it bigger and better. The fuel pump has also been upgraded to 400 litres/hour and a radium fuel rail, radium damper, fuel lab pressure regulator and syvecs fuel pressure sensor installed and wired into the syvecs s6 ecu. The calibration has been re-done from scratch, making a lively 535 BHP and more torque too, although I don't have the numbers just yet. I should have it back this coming week, when it'll get a new set of APR wing mirrors at which point it's ready for it's 3rd annual pilrimage to the Nurburgring and Spa.

Here's a pic of it having a little drink between map tweaks on the road yesterday, and one of some of the engine bay adornments (fuel damper not shown)

Thanks to MG Auto Motorsport, JR Fabrications, SCR and Syvecs for their shared passion and meticulous attention to every detail. It's a build that everyone can be proud of, not just me the owner.

just read this whole thread whilst sat at work.... great read! I have same car but with obvs less done to it. Well done for keeping up with it, given me a lot of ideas and most importantly, the motivation to get my a**e in gear and get mine done! Enjoy!

Just a quick "reach out" to the evo community here. With working away and no foreseeable use of the car over the next couple of years, I'm considering selling the car as is, and would obviously want to give first dibs to the owners club here where it's much more likely to go to someone who understands what they're getting and much less likely to fall into the hands of a spoilt 19 year old as an expensive Christmas present that he'll only go and kill himself in by New Years. So if anybody is interested in the car, PM me. I have a bottom price of 25K, I'd certainly keep it rather than let it go for less than that. If I do decide to sell it to the wider world at large, I'll probably put an ad on Pistonheads next week. ttfn
